Drinking events like company dinners are important for creating comfortable relationships and improving teamwork.

 

     In today's society, a lot of people believe drinking events are important for creating comfortable relationships and improving team work. This is because, while drinking alcohol, people generally have conversation which are too complicated and emotionally related to handle in their office. So, they think dinner event is necessary. However, I disagree with this opinion. I firmly believe that drinking event are not important for making good relationships and teamwork. This is because, first, dinner event is able to work as extended working hours and second, drinking event are able to make negative effect to relationships rather than positive one.

     First, some dinner events are able to be considered and to work as extended working hours to many employees. A large number of advisors inspect their staffs' behavior during the events. Not only that, sometimes these judgment are mirrored to employees' promotion. If advisors have been able to perfectly separate their judgment between office and dinking events, dinner events could not be considered as prolonged working hours, but advisors normally cannot separate their opinion perfectly. For this reason, people only able to discuss some light complains and it does not help to improving their relationships because it cannot solve fundamental problems. According to the survey done by The Korean Times showed that 85 percent people felt burdensome when they drunk alcohol with their co-workers, especially their advisors. The results revealed that people thought their behavior would affect their judgment of the performance in company events, even though advisor said they will not do. Through this result, drinking event cannot have effort to improving workers' relationships.

      Moreover, drinking event are able to make negative effect to relationships rather than positive one. In particular, mandatory dinner event with drinking is the worst case to ruin teamwork. People should have free time to relieve stress and improve themselves. However, when people who tend to get rid of their stress with activities or to spend their time by themselves quietly are attending drinking event, they could think that they are wasting their time for relaxing, and it could make them more stressful. This situation can let people have negative emotion to their group and it could disturb organize good teamwork when they working together. For instance, one of my friend, Sandra, whose hobby is climbing mountain had a plenty dinner party with her co-workers. First time, she enjoyed attending the event, but as time went by, she was exhausted. Then, nowadays she is abandoning her works and just considering change her team to another one where people do respect personal requirement about free time. With this result, I believe that drinking events are able to make negative effect for working.

     In brief, company dining with drinking event are able to be considered and to work as extended working hours to many employees, and also the event are able to make negative effect to teamwork.
